The Veterans Day Ceremony will take place at 11:00 a.m. at the McCambridge Park War Memorial, located at the corner of San Fernando Road and Amherst. The spiders are back! Hundreds of them -- and they're not in terrariums, and there's no glass separating them from you.
Enter the walk-through Spider Pavilion at your own risk and see golden-silk spiders, the black-and-yellow garden spider and many other fascinating orb-weavers.
Spider experts will tell you all about how they trap food and spin webs and write words like "radiant" in them. Maybe not that last part. Nighttime flashlight tours are also planned.

  "The Effects of Ecotourism on Endangered Species" with Dan Blumstein, Professor of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at UCLA.

 Ecotourism is the fastest growing part of the world's largest industry, tourism. Yet, in order for ecotourism to be sustainable, we must know much more about how non-humans perceive the myriad of impacts associated with tourism so that they can be minimized. Dan's research aims to develop predictive models about how species react to human impacts based on an understanding of life-histories and evolutionary "experiences". This free educational event is sponsored by the West Los Angeles Group of the Angeles Chapter of the Sierra Club.
